The SpaceConnectsUs Workshops bring astronauts, scientists, space professionals, and artists into Luxembourg’s classrooms to inspire students through hands-on learning about space, asteroids, and planetary defence.
Each session combines science, art, and technology. Designed for students of all abilities, the workshops make complex scientific ideas accessible, interactive, and fun, while providing teachers with ready-to-use educational resources that complement the school curriculum

Workshop Topics
Each workshop explores a different dimension of space and planetary science. Past and upcoming topics include:
- Life as an Astronaut – daily routines, training, and the science behind living and working in space.
- Asteroids and Planetary Defence – how scientists track asteroids and protect Earth from potential impacts.
- The Science of Sound in Space – exploring astronomy through sound with visually impaired astrophysicist Dr Wanda Díaz-Merced.
- Asteroid Observation and Data Analysis – students use the Virtual Telescope Project to observe asteroids in real time.
- Art Meets Science – creative storytelling and performance workshops with composer Prof. Mike von der Nahmer, linking music, movement, and scientific discovery.
Each session is interactive and age-adapted, combining presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on activities that turn complex concepts into engaging learning experiences. The SpaceConnectsUs workshops target students in primary and secondary schools, with specific sessions tailored to each group. Some workshops are designed exclusively for secondary-level students, according to the topic and the linguistic ability of the participants. Session languages may include English, French, or German, depending on the expert involved.
Learning Goals
Students will:
- Discover how science and technology are used in space exploration.
- Engage creatively with real data and scientific tools.
- Strengthen curiosity, observation, and communication skills.
- See how space connects science, art, and society.
Teachers receive practical resources to extend the learning experience in class and connect workshop content to science and STEAM lessons.
Timeline
The SpaceConnectsUs Workshops run throughout the school year, offering both in-person and virtual sessions.
The programme culminates in special events featuring visiting astronauts on 25 and 26 June, taking place around the Asteroid Day Festival in Luxembourg, a unique opportunity for students to meet real space professionals and ask their questions directly.
